I like a bargain as much as anyone but...
I would pay a little more for a cheapo pen that wrote reliably for the full 10minutes of its life expectancy.

We really are so lucky as a country because whenever we fall by the wayside there are groups like The US State Department (see link) , UNESCO, Amnesty, Greenpeace , PETA, NOW etc etc always happy to take time out from there busy schedule to tell us where we are going wrong.
This is especially true in relation to the treatment of our aborigines . The first three groups (and let's not forget Sir Bob Geldoff) are all so learned on the subject I feel sure if we just took the advice of any of them to heart we would have an endless supply of doctors and lawyers and engineers and CPA's to call on instead of the just a mass of alcoholic welfare recipients to look after .
Who better too to helps us sort through the minefield that is human rights than the US State Department particulary if you adhere to the "It takes a thief to catch a thief "adage .

I am sure over charging by compensation lawyers is so widespread as to be almost universal . Maybe like Craig Thomson , Mr Keddie was just a little too greedy and moved outside the very generous parameters allowed when it comes to fleecing compensation clients.
Anyhow I feel sure Slater and Gordon have managed to swallow Keddies without a trace of indigestion . So all's well that ends well if you are an bottom feeding shyster.
Same gene pool too in some cases- union organizers and compensation lawyers - witness both Julia Gillard's and Nicola Roxon's career paths.
In her short time as Attorney General Nicola Roxon has :
Maybe her role is to come across as so venal and appalling that Ms Gillard by comparison looks not so bad.

This latest story about Coles and Woolworths standover tactics ,this time in relation to local wine producers must make Dick Smith wish once he had never sold his soul to the devil and started spruiking for the Dreadful Duo by telling us it was actually Aldi and Costco who were the real enemy of local producers .
Until recently for years he had been saying the reverse and whinging about how hard it was to get local products most especially his own products onto their shelves . I wonder how many pieces of silver he received and whether it was worth the damage to his credibility.
There was another one just a week or so ago about how most of their homebrand products were produced overseas.

That's it boys from now on pretty much anything you do that displeases the Missus will be considered domestic volence
"The definition of domestic violence will be expanded to include emotional manipulation, withholding money and harming the family pet under controversial changes to family law.
The changes, which become law on Thursday, for the first time broaden the definition of violence beyond physical abuse to other damaging actions , including:

So no more comments about the tea being cold again, don't forget to clean the budgies tray , it's permanently open house for the in-laws, and if she asks for money for that pair of shoes you had better say "Yes Ma'am" or you have now comitted domestic violence and can be made to leave the family home and be denied access to your children .
I wish this were a joke but according to the SMH ( and what could be more reliable than than that ) this is now the law,
The law has been changed as of last Thursday and as the courts have now been stacked with leftist feminist flunkies I would say any but the most grovelling submissive husbands are now at risk.
What a world eh ? and I bet we don't hear a murmer from civil liberties lawyers who are only interested in protecting hardened criminals not husbands.
Moses Obeid's much publicised legal battle with Sydney City Council over Smartpoles may well end up causing his whole notorious family a mountain of trouble and that folks is what they call karma.
Many years ago, about 1998 I think, an engineer I met was more than a little upset . His story was that his company had tendered for a contract to supply high tech electricty poles to the SCC for use throughout the CBD. According to him not only did they not get the contract but the council gave their design details which they were obliged to include in their tender to Moses Obeid's company Smartscape at the same time as awarding him the contract This scenario fits well with very vague explanations you find in any reports about this deal still existing about where the technology came from and is given added weight by the fact that the council as part of the agreement with Obeid were due money on any poles he sold elsewhere .Why would the council have any claim over these poles in relation to sales outside the contract unless they had provided the technology ? The case, where the court found in favour of the council, was in fact all about Mr Obeid having quietly sold plenty more of these poles and not given the council a share of the loot.
Mr Obeid is now up for $12 million but claims he has no assets so they are now looking hard into the whole Obeid family trusts setup . Moses has already dropped a clanger by revealing Obeid family's secret ownership of 3 waterfront cafes which benefited from NSW Labor party decisons when his father Eddie Obeid was virtually in charge of proceedings which will not please dad or the rest of the extremely wealthy family. Who knows , without the Labor Party in NSW in power to protect his interests Eddie may be sailing into a sh*tstorm with no one on deck to trim the sails. I am sure my engineer mate will relish the possibility.
It doesn't seem to matter what governments promise or how embarrassing and damaging to their credibility the back flip is , once governments get a taste of the easy revenue that speed cameras bring them they are hooked for life . Like parking fines for councils they become dependent on it . Rehab is out of the question .They tell you they can't give it up because it is now built into the budget and or course they soon find they have to keep upping the dose to get the same buzz.
The O'Farrell government are the most shameless junkies to date . After promising a major cutback in their pre-election propaganda they are instead going to increase the number and use of cameras many times over. The story that all the money will go towards road safety is about as convincing as the average doper's that this is going to be his last hit and he is going cold turkey tomorrow .
You see more dignity and self control from refugees surounding the first UN food truck to turn up in their camp.
You would think someone at Fairfax might have noticed the value of their shares had fallen nearly 90% in the last 5 years no doubt in large part due to the extraordinary pro Green/pro Left bias in their papers but for the fact that their extraordinary pro Green/pro Left view of the world probably precludes them from seeing anything at all clearly. Any of them who have noticed probably decided it was all the result of a conservative plot -A far more comfortable conclusion than it being rather than the natual result of their atrocious journalism .
